Tackling the Challenges of Multiple Orebodies

Underground mining projects often bring complexities, especially when managing multiple orebodies with unique characteristics. In this case, we developed tailored mining strategies for three distinct orebodies—South, Central, and Main—while addressing critical challenges such as ore dilution, geotechnical feasibility, and production flexibility. We also helped the client assess various mining techniques, including backfilling versus pillar-supported open stoping, and refined cost estimates to ensure the project’s long-term viability.

Advanced Tools for Optimal Resource Recovery

To meet these challenges, Mining Plus leveraged advanced tools like the Mineable Shape Optimiser (MSO) to refine mining extents and boundaries, maximising ore recovery. We designed customised mining approaches for each orebody, such as top-down long-hole open stoping for the South and Central orebodies, and bottom-up open stoping with cemented rock fill (CRF) for the Main orebody. Additionally, we carried out ventilation modelling, conducted cost reviews, and prepared a JORC-compliant Ore Reserve estimate. Our strategies also identified key opportunities for reducing dilution, enhancing operational flexibility, and improving resource utilisation.
