UNLOCKING POTENTIAL AT ROSEMOUNT

Mining Plus was engaged by Regis Resources to conduct a Pre-Feasibility Study (PFS) for the Rosemont underground project. Building on a prior Mining Study completed in 2018, this study aimed to update mine designs, schedules, and costs, while declaring a maiden underground ore reserve for Rosemont.

CHALLENGES

The Rosemont underground resource presented several challenges: incorporating an updated resource model while addressing three distinct orebodies (Rosemont South, Central, and Main). Each orebody required tailored mining methods and sequencing, balancing operational efficiency with ore recovery. Additionally, the updated study had to assess whether to maintain backfilling or switch to pillar-supported open stoping, evaluate geotechnical and economic viability, and provide robust cost estimates. Addressing ore dilution, production flexibility, and reserve classification were also key to optimising the mine plan and ensuring long-term project viability.

SOLUTIONS

Mining Plus conducted an in-depth review of mining methods, updated the block model, and implemented Mineable Shape Optimiser (MSO) tools to refine mining extents and boundaries. Tailored approaches were developed for each orebody: top-down long-hole open stoping with pillars for Rosemont South and Central, and bottom-up open stoping with cemented rock fill (CRF) for Rosemont Main to enable full orebody recovery. Ventilation modelling and cost reviews were conducted, and a JORC-compliant Ore Reserve estimate was prepared. Opportunities for reducing dilution and enhancing resource flexibility were identified for further optimisation.

OUTCOMES

The PFS successfully provided Regis Resources with a robust underground mine design and schedule, allowing the declaration of a maiden Ore Reserve. The study highlighted the economic and technical feasibility of extracting 3 independent orebodies using tailored mining methods. Recommendations were made to extend resources, improve ore grade by reducing dilution, and optimise stope widths. Mining Plus identified opportunities to expand project potential while providing Regis Resources with the clarity and data required to progress the Rosemont underground project toward execution.
