Mining Plus partnered with BMGS to evaluate the detectORE™ system as a rapid, cost-effective grade control solution at Granny Venn, a small gold mining operation in Western Australia. The study aimed to compare detectORE™ results with traditional lab assays and assess its impact on mining efficiency and decision-making.

CHALLENGES

Granny Venn, as a small toll treatment operation, lacked on-site lab support, leading to extended assay turnaround times. This delay disrupted mining sequences as ore block delineations awaited lab results. The challenge was to assess whether detectORE™ could provide a reliable, faster alternative to traditional methods, enabling quicker geological modelling and ore block definitions. With limited resources and a remote location, the project also required a cost-effective and practical solution to reduce dependency on lab analysis while maintaining accuracy.

SOLUTIONS

Mining Plus and BMGS implemented a structured detectORE™ analysis process:

  1. Routine Sampling: Grade control drilling samples were collected following standard procedures.
  2. Dedicated Processing Area: Samples were taken to a controlled area to prevent contamination.
  3. Sieving: Samples were sieved at 1.6mm to eliminate coarse fragments.
  4. Sub-Sampling: 250g sub-samples were prepared for detectORE™ analysis.
  5. Quality Control: Batches included reference samples for accuracy validation.
    This systematic approach ensured reliability and consistency in detecting gold grades rapidly.

OUTCOMES

The implementation of detectORE™ reduced assay turnaround times from weeks to just hours, allowing near-instantaneous ore block interpretations. This efficiency was vital for maintaining mining schedules at Granny Venn. Additionally, the system proved to be a cost-effective solution for remote operations, reducing reliance on external lab facilities while delivering accurate grade control data. The success of this initiative showcased detectORE™ as a transformative tool for expediting grade control assessments in small, remote mining projects.
